Matthew Bain read music at Christ Church, Oxford, graduating with a First in 2007 and a Masters in Musicology with distinction in 2008. He went on to study with Dona Lee Croft at The Royal College of Music, where he won the Lucy Ann Jones and Knights of the Round Table scholarships.
Matthew was principal second violin with the European Union Youth Orchestra from 2011-2012, and plays regularly with orchestras such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Concert Orchestra and the English National Ballet. He has travelled as far afield as Russia, the Middle East and the US through his musical endeavours and led the Mendelssohn Octet in a gala concert in Barbados last year. Matt is committed to community and education projects and recently tutored strings at the European Union Campus Orchestra, the Malta Youth Orchestra, the Megaron Youth Symphony Orchestra in Thessaloniki and the National Children’s Orchestra of Great Britain. He has taught violin and whole class string projects for many years in schools across London. A keen singer and choral conductor, he is also Assistant Musical Director of the London International Gospel Choir.
